You will be prompted to Enter your password. This will be password for your computer.
At this point, MySQL should be running on your localhost (127.0.0.1) on port 3306.
To use the database however, you now need to login to the server. To be able to access it you need to set the path.
In terminal type the following
To update the PATH variable update the bash_profile as such:
Exit and save (ctrl x or c)
TYPE FOLLOWING COMMAND into terminal TO RESET
You can now login using following command to login to mysql
mysql -u root -p
You will be prompted for password. Type in the password from step 2
HOW TO CHANGE root PASSWORD for mysql:
mysql> UPDATE user SET authentication_string=PASSWORD("NEWPASSWORD") WHERE User='root';
(you’ll get an error) then type this line:
SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD('your_new_password');
try to create a database:
at mysql prompt type: CREATE DATABASE coolData;
Show Databases: show databases;
START working with a database: use coolData;
Download MySQL Workbench
sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server stop
sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server restart
